Who is unfamiliar to the name of the great ruler King Bindusara of Mauryan dynasty? But do you know how did he get his name? It has a great story behind it and that story is as follows.
We all have heard the name of the greatest teacher and mentor, Acharya Chanakya (also known as Kautilya or Vishnu Gupt). As we know he was a mentor to King Chandragupta Maurya and he practises a unique technique of administrating poison to King Chandragupta via his food. He practises this so that if sometime the enemy tries to poison King Chandragupta's food, his body will be prepared for such instance. On one such day when Acharya Chanakya sent food for King Chandragupta, he asked his wife, Queen Durdhara, to join him over the dining table. When Acharya Chanakya got this news, he rushes towards King's palace but found that Queen has already engulfed a piece from King's plate. On finding this Acharya Chanakya told the King about poison in his food and that the Queen will not survive for long after this. At that point, the Queen was pregnant and Acharya Chanakya decided to cut the belly of the Queen and bring out the child. When the child was brought out, he was weak and therefore was put into the belly of a goat for seven days. While putting the child into the belly of a goat, he was stained from the blood of the goat and was therefore named as BINDUSARA.
Bindusara is composed of two words, Bindu meaning droplets of blood and Sara meaning composed of or filled with. As the body of the child was completely spotted with the blood droplets of the goat, so, he was named BINDUSARA.
Thank You!
